How We Met

The overview:
Matt and Cindy met through his sister, Kelly, Cindy's best friend in college. Kelly and Cindy were roommates and partners in crime for years in Wilmington, NC. Not until Kelly and Cindy started their careers did Matt and Cindy strike up a relationship. Kelly went into the Army and Cindy moved to Columbia, SC to pursue a career in Sonography. Matt was living in the mountains of North Carolina, where he is from, working with his dad in the landscaping and design business.

How We Got Engaged

From Matt's point of view:
I had always thought that Cindy was a cool chick and, of course, extremely hot! The both of us were involved with other people throughout the years that we had known each other and we lived across the state from one another so it was never really a possibility for us to date. However, things changed when Cindy moved to SC. Mine and Kelly's grandparents also live in SC, and Cindy had moved 45 minutes from them. One weekend I used going to visit Granny and Papa as an excuse to stop through on my way and have dinner and drinks with Cindy one night because at that point we were both single. We had an amazing time together! It felt perfect; the only thing holding me back was the fact that Cindy was best friends with my sister. I called Kelly that weekend when I got home and asked for her blessing to date Cindy. Kelly, of course, obliged; saying that it was a great idea. For the next few months Cindy and I took turns visiting each other on the weekends, we couldn't get enough of each other. It didn't take long for me to figure out that Cindy is the woman that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. I planned a trip for us to Destin, FL where I would propose. One day, in the midst of a lazy afternoon, after spending the day on the beach I finally summoned up the courage to ask her and she accepted, making me the happiest man. It took Cindy several months to find a job in the area but in March 2011 she finally landed one in Hendersonville and moved in with me in Franklin. We have been living harmoniously together ever since.

About the Ring

Matt was blessed to receive his father’s best wishes and a treasured family heirloom. Matt proposed to Cindy with his great grandmother’s ring. The estate piece has a round 1.25 carat solitaire that sits in a platinum European setting with smaller channel set round diamonds along the band, making it slightly over 2 carats total weight. Cindy had some input on the channel set diamond wedding band that uniquely complements her solitaire. Cindy’s ring is classic and could not be more perfect had she chosen it herself. She is honored to wear such a lovely and beautiful family ring that looks and feels as if it were made just for her. She plans to keep the tradition by passing it down when the time comes. Matt’s grandmother had excellent taste!

Our Shared Interests

Some of Cindy's hobbies include exploring and hiking with Matt and the dogs, running and working out at Crossfit. She enjoys seasonal sports such as tennis, canoeing, and snow skiing. In her free time she enjoys shopping, traveling, crafting, entertaining with friends, and watching her favorite TV shows with Matt. Matt has always had a passion for the outdoors, sports and competition. He lifts weights, regularly plays football and basketball with his friends on alumni football team. During the Fall Matt and Cindy spend their weekends watching Clemson Tiger football in Death Valley. Matt and Cindy enjoy many outdoor activities together in the mountains where they live. Matt really enjoys cooking, particularly frying things and plans on teaching Cindy the art of country cooking. Cindy plans on teaching Matt how to snow ski and cook Cajun meals. Matt also spends his time doing remodeling around the house, automotive work, and playing video games. Other than Cindy Matt has 3 loves, his dogs; the Rottweilers, Zeus, 10 and Sigi, 7 and the Rhodes

Our Favorite Date Night

Matt and Cindy enjoy fine dining experiences at home and afar.

The Part of the Wedding We're Most Excited About?

Cindy is most looking forward to the end of the ceremony when she and Matt are introduced to all of their friends and family as Mr.& Mrs. Derry…and of course the first kiss as husband and wife. Both of them are really looking forward to celebrating with family and friends at their reception which will take place in downtown Wilmington along the Cape Fear River. Matt is most looking forward to marrying the woman of his dreams and cessation of their wedding planning on their honeymoon in Negril, Jamaica.

Our Relationship in Three Words

Harmoniously, sublime, and solid
